Brian Schmucker Chief Executive Officer Brian founded RiverNorth in 2000. As Chief Executive Officer, Brian is responsible for firm-wide management, strategic planning and business development. Brian has served as an executive officer for over 15 years. He has been a featured speaker on topics such as closed-end funds, hedge funds, entrepreneurship, and other finance topics at various universities and business roundtable discussions throughout the country. Brian is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Education. He is actively involved with Hedge Funds Care, The Otis Wilson Foundation, and other charitable organizations throughout Chicago. |
Patrick Galley, CFA Chief Investment Officer Patrick joined RiverNorth in 2004 and serves as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager. Patrick heads the firm's research and investment teams and oversees all portfolio management activities at RiverNorth. Patrick also serves as the President and Chairman of RiverNorth Funds. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Patrick was Vice President at Bank of America in the Global Investment Bank's Portfolio Management group. At Bank of America, he specialized in analyzing and structuring corporate transactions for investment management firms in addition to closed-end and open-end funds, hedge funds, fund of funds, structured investment vehicles and insurance/reinsurance companies. Patrick graduated with honors from Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Finance. He has received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of both the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. |
Jon Mohrhardt Chief Operating Officer Jon joined RiverNorth in 2009 and serves as Chief Operating Officer. Jon oversees every aspect of the firm's day-to-day operations. He also serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of RiverNorth Funds. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Jon was Chief Financial Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and Treasurer of Utopia Funds. At Utopia Funds, he was responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations, financial administration and regulatory compliance of an SEC-registered open-end mutual fund complex. At Utopia, Jon led the team responsible for launching the fund family. Jon graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Finance. |
Trevor Andrews, CFA Trevor joined RiverNorth in 2008 and serves as a member of the investment management team. He is responsible for assisting with research, analysis and monitoring of RiverNorth portfolios. Trevor also assisted with the creation of the RiverNorth Closed-End Fund Index and oversees the pricing of the index. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Trevor was an analyst at Bank of America in the Collateralized Debt Group. At Bank of America, he performed Collateralized Debt portfolio analysis and reporting. Trevor graduated with a B.S. in Finance from The Ohio State University. He has received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of both the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. |
Melissa Hale Melissa joined RiverNorth in 2005 and serves as the Controller. She is responsible for maintaining the firm’s financial and accounting records. In addition, Melissa oversees Human Resources and serves as a member of RiverNorth’s compliance team. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Melissa was Executive Assistant to the Vice President at Revere Mortgage Ltd. Melissa graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Psychology. |
Marc Collins, JD Marc joined RiverNorth in 2012 and serves as General Counsel. He is also Chief Compliance Officer of RiverNorth Capital Management, LLC and RiverNorth Funds. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Marc was an attorney in the investment management practice group at Thompson Hine LLP. While at Thompson Hine, Marc counseled clients regarding various aspects of the federal securities laws applicable to investment advisers, investment companies and broker-dealers. Prior to his tenure at Thompson Hine, Marc was Second Vice-President and Counsel at Ohio National Financial Services, where he provided legal guidance to all of Ohio National’s securities-related subsidiaries, which included broker-dealers, investment companies, investment advisers and issuers of variable insurance products. Marc graduated from Carson Newman College in Tennessee with a B.A. in Political Science. He earned his law degree from Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law. |
Brock Corbett Brock joined RiverNorth in 2012 and serves as a member of the investment management team. He is responsible for assisting with research, analysis, and monitoring of RiverNorth portfolios, with a focus on derivatives. Brock graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Economics with a Foreign Language Citation in French. While in school, he played rugby as a member of the Harvard Rugby Football Club and served as a co-captain of the 2009 – 2010 team. Brock is pursuing the CFA designation and is currently a Level III CFA Candidate. |
Emily Deter Emily joined RiverNorth in 2009 and serves as a member of the portfolio specialist team. She works closely with investment management to promote and support RiverNorth’s investment products and investment strategies. Emily graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Finance. Emily is currently a Level II CFA Candidate and member of the CFA Society of Chicago. She is also an active member of the Hedge Funds Care Committee of Hearts. |
Ben Feldman Ben joined RiverNorth in 2013 and serves as an Analyst on the Investment Management Team. He aids in the management of the derivatives portfolio and is responsible for research, analysis and idea generation. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Ben managed a portfolio of U.S. Equity Derivatives at Bengal Capital LLC specializing in single stock volatility arbitrage across all sectors of the S&P. Ben graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Economics, concentrating in Econometrics and Statistics. |
Kaitlyn Hwang Kaitlyn joined RiverNorth in 2012 and serves as a Software Developer. She is responsible for data operations, development of proprietary trading systems, and development of the core infrastructure. Kaitlyn has been a programmer in the financial industry for over five years and has been a programmer for over 11 years. Kaitlyn graduated from University of Chicago with a B.A. in Economics and the University of Illinois at Chicago with an M.S. in Biomedical Visualization. |
Bryan Ierardi Bryan joined RiverNorth in 2010 and serves as a Software Developer and Data Operations Analyst. Prior to joining RiverNorth, he provided online application and media production consulting services. Before beginning his consulting work, Bryan started a boutique digital post-production company with business partners where he served as President and Creative Director for seven years. His company expanded its service offerings to include incubating e-commerce properties and developing and hosting small business websites. Before beginning his professional career, Bryan served four years in the United States Marine Corps infantry (oo-rah) and earned a Combat Action Ribbon in the first Gulf War. |
Stephanie Johnstone Stephanie joined RiverNorth in 2013 and serves as an Operations Specialist. She is responsible for providing multifaceted office support and leads the firm's public relations efforts. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Stephanie worked for the University of Phoenix as an Enrollment Advisor. At Phoenix, Stephanie was responsible for enrolling and supporting new students. Stephanie graduated from Kent State University with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism. |
Renee Lucas Renee joined RiverNorth in 2011 and serves as an Investment Operations Specialist. She is responsible for maintaining separately managed accounts (SMA), serving as a liaison between private clients and the investment management team. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Renee worked at Jackson National Asset Management, supporting the Financial Reporting team. At Jackson, Renee was responsible for finalizing the production of shareholder reports. Renee graduated with from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in English. |
Eric Metz, CFA Eric joined RiverNorth in 2012 and serves as Portfolio Manager and Derivatives Strategist. Eric aids the firm in optimizing risk across its portfolios while managing the derivatives-oriented portfolios. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Eric was a partner at Bengal Capital LLC. Before working at Bengal, Eric was a senior trader at Ronin Capital, LLC. Eric graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan with a B.S.E in Industrial and Operations Engineering. He earned his M.S.E., with honors, in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. He was enrolled in the Industrial and Operations Engineering PhD program at the University of Michigan before pursuing his career path with the Chicago Trading Company on the floors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). He also has received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of both the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. |
Jay Nolan, CAIA Jay Nolan joined RiverNorth in 2013 and serves as a member of the portfolio specialist team. He works closely with the investment management team and acts as a liaison between investors and the firm's portfolio managers. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Jay worked as an Assistant Vice President and Senior Research Analyst at Pitcairn, a multi-family office based in Philadelphia. In this role, Jay managed investment models of liquid hedge and real asset strategies, performed investment and operational due diligence for various hedge fund managers, and helped to expand the firm's open architecture program. Prior to his time at Pitcairn, Jay spent six years as an Investment Analyst at Glenmede Trust, after starting his professional career at Cambridge Associates. Jay earned his MBA, with a concentration in Finance from Emory University in 2011. He holds a BBA in finance from James Madison University and also holds the CAIA designation. |
Steve O'Neill, CFA Steve joined RiverNorth in 2007 and serves as Portfolio Manager. He co-manages the firm's closed-end fund trading strategies. Steve is also a member of the asset allocation team and helps to oversee the firm's research analysts. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Steve was Assistant Vice President at Bank of America in the Global Investment Bank's Portfolio Management group. At Bank of America he specialized in the corporate real estate, asset management and structured finance industries. Steve graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami University of Ohio with a B.S. in Finance and a minor in Economics. He has received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of both the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. |
Eric Pestrue, CFA Eric joined RiverNorth in 2010 and serves as a member of the investment management team. His primary responsibilities include assisting with research, analysis, asset allocation, monitoring of portfolios and trading. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Eric was a Project Manager in Morningstar's Data division. At Morningstar, he worked extensively on the closed-end fund database and led the creation of the unit investment trust database. Before working at Morningstar, he was a Quantitative Research Analyst with First Trust Portfolios where he helped backtest quantitative investment strategies and select holdings for unit investment trusts. Eric graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Economics and received his MBA, with honors, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has also received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is a member of both the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. |
Allen Webb, CFA Allen joined RiverNorth in 2012 and serves as a member of the portfolio specialist team. He is responsible for supporting the investment management team and acts as a liaison between the portfolio managers and the firm’s investor base. Prior to joining RiverNorth, Allen was a principal at Alpha Capital Management where he helped with manager research and portfolio construction across Alpha’s multi-manager liquid alternative investment strategies. Before Alpha, Allen worked as a senior portfolio manager at ING Investment Management, and was responsible for the trading and management of $30 billion in investment grade corporate bonds. Prior to joining ING, he was a fixed income analyst and portfolio manager at the $26 billion Retirement Systems of Alabama, managing proprietary pension assets for the teachers and employees of the State of Alabama. Allen graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in Mathematics. He has earned his MBA from the University of Alabama. He has received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Societies of Atlanta and Chicago. |
